I want to do some doublets cabs, and I know the mateing surfaces have to be flat for good adheison. What diamond mesh size would be best for accomplishing that. Also, I think that same mesh size would work for intarsia work also, yes? I viewed the tute on doubles and triples cabbing but mesh size was not mentioned. Thanks in advance for any advise.

Gary, I use 180 grit first on my Ameritool to get it flat. I have a new 180 that is only used to make sure something is flat and another 180 to use when it doesn't matter, like a cab. I have a complete extra set of grits just for flat lapping. Hope this helps, Ken

Ken, have you tried facet laps? I'm thinking they would be more precise than the diamond sanding discs and probably last longer. Lap toppers from the People's Republic cost less also.
