First two are gneiss , third is schist , forth is hornfels , last one is quartzite . The two gneisses are attractive , and the quartzite is too . The other two are good rock garden fill ;D You gonna cab any of it ? Neat to see rocks from other places , though we have those here . Thanks for showing them

Oh yeah I'll cab it. Heck, even the garden fill lol! As long as it polishes. That hornfels was really hard too, so I bet it will polish nicely. Thanks for the ID's Ted.

That green is lookin' like Serpentine to me. The last is definitely quartz. Cool hiking rocks!

Thanks Jo. Are you talking about the 2nd from last one posted? The colors might be off. Its more black than green I think. IIRC the serpentine I worked that I got from you was pretty soft too, because I was really surprised it polished. This one was quite hard... I guess I'll just have to cab it and see! Ted, I don't think I have any rockhounding possibilities nearby. I'm about 25 miles SW of Green Bay. All the land around here is private. There's quite a few limestone quarries around, and I've found info online about there being dolomite quarries nearby too. Don't know if it would be anything worth exploring to get cab-worthy material, and I would bet most quarries won't let me in anyway. Maybe a club could get access, but I don't belong to one.
I got these rocks near Navarino, which is about 40 miles north of me. I guess that's not too far, so if I want to go back I can.

Yeah , the private property , somebody owns everything . the parks dont want you hounding either . How about beaches on lake michigan? there is a limestone quarry just a couple miles from here , i find some good stuff there, and rivers and creeks . My mom owns some property with some creeks and river runs through ,is mostly where i go . I would say where you found those is worth going back to .

I remembered after my last post that there's agate found in Green Lake. They're really small specimens, but have cool fortification. I think it's a quite recent find (within the last few years at most, maybe this year even). That's SW of me about an hour. But that was found in a private quarry. I'll google it and see if I can find pix.
A friend of mine told me about a beach on lake michigan they go hounding at. I haven't gotten the chance to get there yet. Hopefully next summer I can get the girls there and we can spend some time collecting.
There's a creek running through my parent's yard, but it's all limestone a few feet underground there. They just had a new septic system installed last year, and I poked through the stone that was dug up from that - all limestone hunks...
I want to get to the U.P again sometime and dig through some tailings. It's only a few hours to get there, so I figure I can make a day trip and hopefully find some stuff.
