In previous threads I saw someone mention that you could re-use polish and that sparked two questions... 1. Can the slurry from the prepolish or polish steps go down the drain since they are quite fine? 2. Is it possible to reuse polish? How? Thanks to all who respond - I'm hoping I can be helpful to others. It's a great community to be a part of!

I just pour the polish sludge through a screen or colinder into a bucket. From the bucket it goes into a clear pickle jar. After about a week I pour off as much water as I can. Then when I need it for a load, I shake it up and pour it in the barrel. I don't put any of this stuff down the drain.

Another question...If you can reuse polish, I would infer that it does not break down. Does that mean you can let the tumbler go as long as you want without recharging during the final stage?

Hey Skip. Normally if you were patient enough in step 1, that is, left them in and recharged as needed, there should be no reason to recharge any of the remaining steps. That's the theory anyway. But most of us get anxious and move on too soon. In that case, you might get by with recharging step2, but step 3 & 4 should never need recharging. Experience helps a whole lot in this hobby, so keep on tumblin'.
