ok the dalmations are looking good with the cerium oxide at day 7 but in andy's directions he said when they are like you like them run 4 more days. if the 4 days is going to make a difference i want to let them roll. what do y'all think? it won't hurt them will it?

Tumble them until YOU are satisified. I have found a few rocks that no matter how long I tumble them they will not shine.

I shoot for 2 weeks, right now I have a couple of rocks that have been in the final polish for just over a month.

Just had an interesting experience...took a largish batch of amethyst/ametrine out of a cerium oxide polish in a vibe tumbler. Along with it was a fair amount of filler rock, some I picked up in interesting places and appears to be chert etc -- other quartzes -- some of the rest I think was back yard gravel originally, and was a plain, dull, artificial looking brown/tan. Suddenly this fill rock is BEAUTIFUL! Some of it took on a lot of striation and really interesting color, and almost all of it shines with a great wet look shine even though to look at it, you wouldn't necessarily think it was a hard rock. I thought the quartzes would hopefully polish and the other was immaterial. So I have yet another tumbling surprise. I've gotta figure out how to get a pic up here.

Yea, that's the part I love about tumbling rocks from my back yard! It never ceases to amaze me what I can find.
