I have been procrastinating for about 6 weeks now putting the vise on my 12" saw back together. I had not kept good track of the nuts and bolts as I took it apart, and I thought the new power feed motor was going to require some tweaking of the parts to mount it. I was just avoiding what I feared would be a frustrating task. Well today a friend (Sara/moondragon's son) came by and spent a few hours helping me modify and reassemble everything. Everything works, arbor is quiet, blade is new, power feed is great, vise is tight, oil is clean .. in short, you are never going to see it in this condition ever again. LOL.

That looks way too clean. You need to get busy and get a protective coating of "rock snot" on it. ;^)

Is that a home made saw?

No, it is a standard LS12. Nowdays the paint is blue and the threaded rod is a little thicker, but most other parts are still interchangeable. We had to trim a metal plate that fit into the autofeed housing because the new factory motor is a little bigger than the original one. Also, the connector that joins the gearmotor shaft to the threaded rod had to be bored out because the new motors have a 3/8 shaft instead of 1/4. I started with a cheap 12" blade, but this model is known to be able to handle a 14" blade if you raise up the saw (relative to oil pan) about 1/2". Once I get the feel of it in the 12" configuration, the next time I need a blade, I might spring for 14".

Man, that saw is just way too clean. It's just crying out for a good coating of rock snot.

I am going to cut the piece of starburst rhyolite shown in the vise. It was the 1st piece I was going to cut 10 weeks ago when I found out the autofeed was not working. Makes sense to go ahead and take a few slices before clamping up another rock.
I think next up will be a chunk of multicolor jasper that I just got, and which is just a bit too big to put on the LS10, but should fit OK on the LS12. It is about 4x4x6, whith yellows and reds in a dark background. I can't post a pic until I get a pesky virus off of my laptop, but I hope to have pics of the rocks and slabs later in the week.
