Happy New Year! I'm a newbie to using a tumbler for rocks, but have used one for cleaning the skeleton keys I use in my beaded jewelry. www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=Shop&op=listing&product_id=1656779I've spent the last week reading the posts on this forum and learning a lot. If I need to post the following in another forum, please let me know. The tumblers I've been using are Chicago Electric (from Harbor Freight) tumblers. The 3 lb one goes through belts like water and the motor on the 6 lb died. I have ordered a Lortone3A as I want to start incorporating some wrapped & caged rocks in my jewelry. But I also don't want to just throw away the CEs. Can anyone tell me which Lortone belt I should use on the CE 3 lb. Rotary Tumbler? And which motor for the 6 lb? I've been to the Lortone site and am confused. There's so much great info here I figure I'll be here quite a while sifting through it.

welcome =we could use more members from Michigan. been looking at your site , wish you were closer ! It's a long drive from Manton to your place. For your (junk) Chicago a hair band will work, the cheep round ones without a clasp.

When my father-in-law was alive we went up to Baldwin twice a month. Yes, quite a trip. Hm....I think I have some of those hairbands around here somewhere. Thank you for the tip! Hoping to get a ship notice on the Lortone on Monday.

Thumler's #400 work well for belts. Can't help with the motor. If it is a double 3 lb. Lortone model is 33B. If a 6lb. single QT-6. You can find them at Kingsley North.

Thanks, John. I know the CEs aren't worth much for rocks, but they do a nice job on tumbling small metal jewelry pieces. I'll check Kingsley North

Welcome to the site. When you put the new belt on your ce, make sure the pulleys are lined up. Almost every one I've seen is out of line. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up on the pulleys. Maybe that's been the problem all along...not that I would use the CE for rocks again. I think they are just not robust enough. But I will be using them to tumble metal pieces.

I know where Mason is. :-) Never been there, but I make occasional trips to Lansing for beadmaking supplies and yarn (not in the same store. LOL) and know Mason is to the south.
