First, what is the name of the tape that can be used for dopping. Mel posted that he uses it but unless I missed something, I didn't find what kind of tape it is. I want to start dopping but don't want to mess around with heat and wax. Using tape sounds like a great idea.
Second, a member on this board use to offer plastic sheet templates and I was wondering if he/she is still doing this. I checked on the net for templates but there wasn't much of a variety of shapes and I remember his had almost the whole shabang.
Any help with these two questions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lori

I know that there are offered free templates that I received, but they are I think PDF files that you print and can transfer to plastic. Me, I bought thick flat photo paper, which is about four times thicker than the normal photo paper, at Staples and printed the templates on them, then cut out the shapes. They worked great! I use a fine point sharpie to outline then go back with a thicker point when I start to make my preforms. So far, they work fabulously! If you go here, to Tony Terner's post, you'll see a copy of the templates. They are fabulous! Tony says he can print them on card stock and send them to you, which is pretty much the same thickness as what I'm using, actually I think mine is a tiny bit thicker.

Donnie and Mel, Thanks for the info. You have just saved me some fingernails.
Robin, Thanks for the link. Actually, I have Tony's templates and been using them for a while but from all the use the shapes are out of shape. lol
I love Tony's templates because there is a ton of variety. I'm just getting a little lazy about cutting em out.
There was a member, maybe it was two members that offered 5 sheets of precision cut shapes for a great price. I think he/they did this just for the board members. My memory is foggy but I think this was back about 2 years ago.
Thanks again all for the help.

Does this tape work any better than the tape that originally came with the Gy-Roc cabber?

You're welcome. Now I need to save my nails, at least what's left of them after 3 days of cabbing!

Dr. Joe, This stuff works much better specially on the Gy-rock dop heads. Reason I quit using the Gy-roc set up in the first place was the tape was not sticking all that well. This new stuff is much more waterproof....Mel

Donnie, go to Office Max and get rubber finger tips. Staples and Office Depot have them, but the large sizes have to come for OM. Man, do they work good. Used to tape my fingers with painters tape, but it would get soggy in just a little while and then come off. Got to get some of that tape and try it next time I go by an office supply. Ken

Ken, The mounting tape is a hardware store item. You probably won't find it in an office supply place.....Mel

Actually, when I went to the 3M site, it gave a list of suppliers and office depot sells the jumbo rolls of this... 450" for $25 which is better than walmart's $4.50 for 60" (altho mine rang up $3.77!). Still 5 or 6 cents an inch is not a bad deal...

Sitnwrap, the post is in the Buy, Sell & Swap Shop for members; 63rd page under "12 plastic templates", posted by "misguidedone". Hope this is what you are looking for. Don ps: I think thata there were some updated ones, too. A few months ago, Adrian & I had these templates laser cut and offered up two extra sets for members here at RTH. A few others expressed interest so I ordered a few more sets. You get 2 sets of shapes in 6 different sizes each for my cost, $25 plus $4 postage. If your interested, you can PM or e-mail me. Pay-pal works for me. Thanks, Steve P.S. may be out of touch on weekends

I'm glad I got those templates when I could! I think there is a craft plastic at Michael's or Joann's that is the right thickness for cutting Tony's designs.

Checked our Office Max for this tape when I was in town this afternoon. They have the big rolls for $21 but it's the"Indoor mountng tape" The stuff I'm using is the "outdoor" permanent mounting tape. Both might work but the outdoor is supposed to be waterproof so I'd think it would work better for dopping.....Mel

Yeah, that's what we have here...OfficeMax not Depot....the exterior is on the Depot website (450" for $25). I tried the interior and it works for a little while, but once the foam sponge takes on enough water, the stone falls off. Went back to Wally World and the other store (woohoo! our town is big enough for two!) had one roll of exterior left....can't wait to try it. What is going on? Mass sign installations that this stuff is being eaten up?!

LOL.
Ken, thanks for the rubber finger tip, uh, tip. I think that'll keep me cabbing a little longer the next time I'm doing a fair weather marathon multi-day session.
Is it hard to get the stone off the tape? Can they stay on the end of the dop stick and be re-used?
