I'm starting the night shift tonight, so I had most of the day to play with rocks - YAY! And it was a good day, too! ;D I put the 500 watt halogen lamp about a foot above my polishing wheel for a while before I attempted to polish these, and these all polished up real nice with no trouble. I think the low temps were what was causing me grief when polishing. Here's what I got done: Syringopora coral - 2 cabs cut opposite directions and from 2 different pieces. There's quite a color difference in the host rock. I was surprised this stuff polished for me, as it ground more like chocolate than rock LOL. In fact the girdle is all crooked on the teardrop shaped one... Don't look too close A small psilomelane. I just cut the end off my piece of rough to practice on it. Gonna slab with the banding to get a funkier pattern on the next one. The re-do for Abigail's friend's birthday wrap. This one turned out fantastic! backlit - and the back's still rough yet. Gonna be fab when done! Lastly is a small piece I slabbed off a baseball size chunk of Ohio blue flint I bought for like a buck at the local rock show almost a year ago. If I knew this stuff worked this nicely and looked so cool, I would have chopped it up a long time ago! Had to use the flash to get the colors to show up, so it's not the best photo. There's a cool quartz vein in it. I probably will groove wrap this for my buddy Jeff for his birthday next month. Thanks for looking! Nate
