I was given a piece of Georgia queen jasper from a vendor at the Mobile Gem Show. It cabs great and I would like to have more. Does anyone know of a location where I might collect some?

I'll see if I can get the location for you. I know the guys that are hammering up a boulder and are getting a truck load at a time. This is actually chert. Most of it is porous and has voids ( sometimes in the shape of a shell or other fossil ). Most of it will not tumble or polish but sometimes you can get a solid piece that will polish. This is from middle to south georgia . South of Macon is all I know.................

I am working on it. I am asking one of the few people that know , and maybe they will tell me ( and maybe not ). Here is what I have found out so far : Geology of Georgia Queen Picture Jasper site Pulaski County, Georgia. Oligocene Era 30 million years ago, Silica from erosion deposition replaced fossilferous limestone – subsequent silicification of shell and marine animal forms – iron from precipitation in a shallow inland sea with chalk and iron in the form of Goethite, Limonite, and Hematite. They are abundant, and are responsible for patterns and colorations in the Georgia Queen Picture Jasper. Most stones will have some pitting! Georgia Queen Pictue Jasper takes a high polish!

Here is the response I got when I asked for directions to the site: Hi Rodney, This site is one of two left that our club has to go to in our area. So at this time we can not give out this information. But if you join the club, there will be a field trip this spring some time. Jay End qoute. It might be worth your while to join the club but then it is with the understanding not to make the directions public. Anyone wanting to join : www.midgagms.org/I hope this helps! Rodney
