I have a question -- on stones (agates/ pet wood) that I was working last night, I think I discovered that its 14000 diamond and then I go to cerium oxide; with cerium being the polish, that seemed to be the logical progression. But I don't know, I tried it in reverse and there didn't seem to be any difference in the final outcome of shine. What is the micron size of c o and is co (that's what I have) the last stage. I posted a pic of the agate with polish results in question. It looks and shines good but just doesn't have that wet look I'm after. thanks for any help...Gary

I get my "wet" look on fire agates by polishing with diamond pastes in order: 325, 600, 1200, 3000, 8000, 14000, 50000 and then TO polish on felt.

What is TO? I know the "O" is oxide. What's the "T"

Tin Oxide. AO is aluminum oxide. I personally think 14k and CO are about the same. I have noticed that there is very little difference in the polish in them. I have just about quit using diamond 14k paste. Using 14k belts and 25k belts and then 50 k belts. Ken

There are different grades of CO isn't there? my friend takes his stuff up to 50K and then hits it with a special optical grade CO that he swears by.

Kingsley North has super c o at 3 times the cost of reg. c o. I guess they don't call it super for nothin. Does anyone use tripoli , either on wheels or as tumble pre polish? I have some, but haven't used it for any pre polishing yet.

I use tripoli combined with AO 1000 as a pre-polish in my vibe.

Tripoli makes a good cheap prepolish for tumbling. Super Cerium works really well on hard to polish wood but price is now astronomical. I agree 14000 diamond is about the same as standard cerium. You could try 50,000 if ou are not happy with the 14K.

I've got some 50,000 that came with that little Ran Co unit. I'll give that a try

Super Cerium after 100,000 diamond will dull the polish obatained by the 100K diamond.

Curt, that sounds like the voice of experience. I bet that was frustrating
