I almost blew it with this one... Here's the cab I cut last weekend for Abigail to give her friend for her birthday. Abigail was busy all week and didn't get to wrap it, so I offered to groove wrap it this afternoon. As I was wrapping it, the top part on the back chipped off, then the bottom left front corner chipped a bit too. I guess that maybe I either need a lighter touch while wrapping or obsidian is a bit too unstable for grooving. I'm going with the latter, because it couldn't be me, right?!? ;D Here's the wrap. I used silver plated 22 ga square wire I got at Michael's. Front - I see the binding got twisted a little... back backlit - Abigail thought it was cool you could see the wire through it. I guess I got the flaws covered enough for it to pass inspection.

That looks ok to me. Yeah, it is hard enough cabbing obsidian without chipping it. I can't imagine trying to groove it. It's not you.

That does look elegant, I didn't even see the chipped parts you mentioned so good job covering them up.

Looks really good to me I like grooves with some extra swirls. I have had the same problem with grooving obsidian. A little too much pressure and off comes a flake. Not so good unless your making arrowheads, but really nice if you get it right like you did with this one.

That's a great looking pendant. The way you did the bail, it looks like it can be worn on either side.
I've been trying to cab obsidian and it's giving me fits. Yours looks great.

Thanks again everyone.
Abigail's friend loved the pendant, too. I'm glad it turned out.
