Here is my latest creation a 30 x 30x 10 heart made out of some of the Rose Quartz I collected last fall. ![](http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/CABOCHONS%20FOR%202011/111_1393.jpg) If you look closely in this photo you can see an asterism in the center of the heart. I just lucked into that one ![](http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/CABOCHONS%20FOR%202011/111_1370.jpg)

What is asterism? I am new and have not heard that term before. Tammy Tammy, If you look at the second picture you will see two silvery lines near the center of the cab that aren't in the first pic. These lines are the asterism. It is commonly called a star. This stone shows a two ray star in certain orientations. The material I collected last fall is known to produce stones with "eyes" known as "catseye" stones and star stones with up to 6 rays Here are two examples of the 6 ray asterisms produced from this material. I did not cut these 2 stones but it is from the same deposit. i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/Pugh%20Rose%20Quartz%20Claim%20Field%20Trip%20Aug%2029%202010/GEDC0298-1.jpgi397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/Pugh%20Rose%20Quartz%20Claim%20Field%20Trip%20Aug%2029%202010/GEDC0296-1.jpgI am still learning how to orient a stone to get this effect to show. That is why I said I lucked out on the heart I cut because I wasn't trying to get it to show. I hope that helped. Toad, I just mark out the heart shape using a stencil and cut. I can get a little tricky aroung the center because of the spacing between the wheels on my Genie. It would probably be easier on a Pixie. Sometimes I will use my Foredom to clean up and smooth out the center.

Thank you Robin.
TByrd,
For some reason photos were not posting for me so here is the direct link to those examples of 6 ray asterisms.
