Howdy folks, Went over to the gem show in Fredericksburg this morning. Another fine show and not disappointing at all. Place was jammed but there were some bargains to be found, especially in the slab bins. Here are the treasures i brought home. First off, my favorites. Nice dino bone slabbettes at $1 each. Better this year than last and most of these will cut pretty large cabs. Cool find! Matt Dillon says this is palm wood that was mostly decayed before it agatized ( palm shrinkwood) Nice golden palm 5" round gemmy as all get out too: Was stunned to find this gemmy dino bone slab in a bin for $5. About 2" by 5" and no pits Another stunner, a big 5" by 5" gem slab of confetti agate for $2. This is out of right near the flame agate vein area in Naica, Mexico and you seldom see this quality any more. Here's a weird one. Anyone knows for sure what this is , please let me know. To me it looks to be a form of ruby in zoisite I've never before seen. Picture doesn't do it justice. It's gorgeous stuff Huge slab off a Rio Grande cobble that looks a lot like Arizona wood. Picture is a bit over exposed. It's actually much brighter colored. And finally, one of those west Texas moss agates. Looks similar to stuff from around Marfa and Big bend.

Mel, the one you question looks very much like Ruby in Fuschite. Ruby in Zoisite doesn't have the shimmer that Ruby in Fuschite has. At least that is what I have observed with my own fuschite and zoisite. If it is fuschite, it does undercut.
You picked up a lot of beauties.

sitnwrap: I was thinking that might be the case but the material very unlike the Indian ruby in fuchsite that I have in my collection. Plus, there seems to be another mineral in the mix too. If I had to guess though, I'd agree with you. Hope it'll take a polish.....Mel

I second Sitnwrap's opinion--I have a slab that is almost idential of ruby in zoisite, only yours has more ruby. You got some great stuff.

Yeah, not so happy with the dino bone slabbettes today after they are well dried out. This particular seller seems to really wet them down and when they dry, more flaws are revealed. I wish all sellers would sell their slabs dry and then have something to wet them with "after" you sort out the good stuff. Most all will make nice cabs but on some the super glue will be a must *L*. Guess that's why he only charges a buck each. The big slab though, I bought dry and it's sweet!...Mel

I've done that too Mel. We all know better to buy slabs wet, but I forget when I get to the show. I guess I'm all giddy and looking around windering where to go next. ;D
Really nice finds. Thanks for sharing. I especially like the last 2.
