Hello everyone,
I recently purchased 3 10" diameter grid-abrade magnetic disks and wanted to share my experiences with them.
All in all, they work fantastically. I have a 100 grit, a 220 and a 600.
The 100 removes material very evenly and very, very quickly. When I am working with quartz and I am working on a flat surface that has divots in it that are several millimeters, the 100 disc can wear down the surface of a 3" x 2" piece in about 1-2 minutes! When I tried this with a 10" 60 grit brand new silicon carbide belt, there was no comparison. I am extrememly impressed.
The 220 works well and removes the 100 scratches in seconds.
Same for the 600, although I'm not totally sure I really had to buy the 600. After the 600 I start using my 600 Nova wheel and on upward. I suppose that if I stopped at 220 then I could just go to my 280 Nova.
I bought them from Covington Engineering. They were a little pricey, but well worth it. I wish that I had had the money to buy the 12" diameters but they were over double the price!
I was told by one of the techs that if you runs these grid abrades vertically, that you have to be careful to not put too much pressure if your piece is hanging over the edge of the disc, because it could potentially dislodge and then fly off and damage itself. I have been working with them vertically and I have had no problems with this.
:-) Dave

Hi Dave,
Finally found this post. I had been eagerly awaiting your review and missed it!
You talked me into it. These will be my next purchases.

what little research I've done it sounds like interesting abrasive products see thru grinding is becoming a rage are you attaching the disc on the end of the arbor ?
