Last Saturday morning Christa and I headed down to Quartzsite to meet up with Larry (Gem 'n I). He was out on a business trip from Ohio, and it worked out great where we could meet up for the third year in a row! Got to spend a little more time with STR and Catmandewe, and meet Johnsgems, Josh with Olympic Poppy Jasper and Tim (azrockgeek). Woody and Mossy were out there but unfortunately our paths didn't cross.
Here's a couple sweet Ohio Flint slabs Larry gave me
And a few other acquisitions from the morning.. Olympic Poppy from Josh
And some Royal Sahara from George at Oasis
Stocked up on cheap 10" blades from the Australians too. We spent a couple hours there then headed out for the desert to do some hounding. We had intended to do this last year, but a freak storm flooded the desert and left us on the sidelines. This time it was warm, dry and perfect. We drove for several miles and ended up out at the Anderson Mine. This place is like a candy store with agate littering the land. I got to see Larry open his door, look out at the ground and say "Holy sh*t!" LOL
Some scenery from the area
Here's a boulder I was hell bent on bringing home. Spent a good chunk of time loosening it up but it kicked my butt. The one that got away
Gem 'n I.. 'n I
We loaded up and enjoyed the afternoon. Soon we decided it was time to go. Christa was kind enough to open and close the gates
Saw a hawk up in a tree on the way out, just as I snapped the pic it took off
And the desert in the setting sun on our way out
What an adventure! Here's some shots of what I brought back. I'm sure Larry was busy packing flat raters to ship home.
Nice pinkish dendritic agate
Some neat brown, red and blue Christa found
That's all folks.. thanks for sharing our trip with us!
