Hey all!
My boss's wife was just telling me that (shes not a rock hound) she and her daughter want to make a trip somewhere in Arkansas, where you can mine for diamonds.
Anyone heard of this?
Thanks!!!

Is Crater of Diamonds State Park the one she is thinking of?
I was just reading up on it and it has very cool history about this area and site.
As always

Yes I believe that would be where she was talking about. I've never been there, but plan to someday... If they go, ask her to bring some rocks home. I believe there's jasper and agates there too, but usually overlooked when people are wanting diamonds.

Yup, Crater of Diamonds State Park. Unlikely to find a diamond in one day, but hey, someone has to win the lottery sooner or later.

Thanks Guys!!!!
For some reason I think that if I were to find anything, I would be really interested in seeing the material that they are embedded in.
When I was reading up on it, they talk about the diamonds being in something they called a "volcanic pipe".
I had never heard this term ... so I think seeing what the stones are in would be just as interesting.

The entire field you hunt in is the opening of a volcanic pipe. The diamonds are 'in' Lamproite. www.craterofdiamondsstatepark.com/history/why.aspxDefinitely try to go after a rain or on a sunny day. Most diamonds are found by just looking while walking around. I've been there twice, haven't found one yet, but there's always next time. Later, jeri

In the web site there is a place you can sign up for the parks newsletter. It sounded like a fun read but the sight wouldn't take my addy so I had to send the addy by regular mail. Thanks for the post

Julie, it is a neat place been there 7 or 8 times has a really nice camp ground with lots of wild life and lots of racoons that rob people of their food on a nightly basis ;D I have never found a diamond but always collect agate and jasper if you go you need to go collect crystal also it is near by Donna
