Those are all great but I think some of the names may be wrong. Just a thought. Fran

I think I saw all of these in recent ebay auctions from seller sansrock. He is in Mt. Oive. Don't think I bid on any of those though. I did get outbid on one slab of dendritic opalite, but not that one.
I bid up 10 -15 of his slabs once or twice a uear. About half of them I get for the 99 cent opening bid. A few, lke the opalite or royal velvet obsidian get bid up a to a few bucks. Still each slab yeilds 2-3 cabs.

That's him, Sansrock, we're constantly emailing each other about slabs. I think, to date, I've bout about 30 pounds of slabs from him. Same too, I usually only bid $1, and hope for the best. I bid on 33 slabs this time and won about half of them. Great shipping, kind of goes a bit overboard on his packing but I do appreciate it.

oops - when I bid, I do bid more than $1. so I may have overbid you on a few. This time I mostly did spiderweb obsidian, some crazy lace if there were white puffs, and a few piccaso. I go for th eoccasional royal velvet, but I have quite a bit of that rough, so I am usually outbid on that.
Polychrome Jasper Slab 1.25 Fantasy Jasper Slab 0.99 Polychrome Jasper Slab 0.99 Crazy Lace Agate Slab 3.75 Picasso Jasper Slab 0.99 Polychrome Jasper Slab 0.99 Spider Webb Obsidian Slab 2.36 Polychrome Jasper Slab 2.11 Leopard Skin Jasper Slab 1.36 Fantasy Jasper Slab 1.04 Agate Slab with Dendrites 0.99 Polychrome Jasper Slab 0.99
I have a lot of high quality polychrome rough, so I usually do not bid on his. But this time the "hills" were a little thicker, and some were a night scene with white stars in a purplish sky, so I went for a few.
they are packed well, but last time the brand of scotch tape had a really obnoxious glue. it made me almost send a complaint. I have not yet opened this box. It cam earlier in the week, but I was a bit under the weather until today. I had about 4 boxes of rough/slabs stacked up to open and I got to 3 of them before I started fussing with the belt on my 12" saw. I guess I will open these slabs tomorrow.

Not a problem, to me it's like gambling, and I never increase my bids. If I win, good, if I don't , there'll be at least another 100 items that will interest me, all for $1 or less! lol
Yes, same tape with snotty backing. I wipe them down with "Goof Off" to get that off of them, then bathe them in warm water.....omg that sounds too funny...

I used acetone, but in the past it was more like Scotch Magic Tape, and held well, but peeled off without leaving a layer of glue. I guess I should let him know.
I only increase bids if I already have a few wins and want to make sure I fill up a FRB. Still I let things go if the bidding gets irrational. SOmetimes on the crazy lace people will bid more on the slab than a pound of the rough sells for.

When I lived near Mt. Olive in the early 70's, I used to go to Harley's about once amonth and get rocks. Back then he had about 3 24" saws going. He had a bunch of greenhouses with bananas and such that I would also get. Stopped by and saw him last year and all his place was overgrown and he is in poor health. lives in a place called Beautancus, NC I bet there are 5 foot tall piles of rocks, all back in that overgrowth, he used to have several piles way out back. Can't get to them now. Ken

That area is about 3.5 hours from me, well worth the effort.

Interesting that there might be piles he cant get to. The range of whe he offers is good but limited. There has always been Rosetta stone for years, also crazy lace. But the polychrome jasper is not such an old discovery and mustbe more recent stock. He started with the spiderweb obsidian about 3 years ago, and for several years before that I did nto see it. He did have royal velvet obsidian for as long as I can remember. The agate with dendriters is also more recent for him. He must be buying new stock even as the weeds keep him from some of the older piles.

I just sent him a message asking if he'd entertain the thought of a visitor. This spring I'd love to go over there and wander the piles, weeds or no. I've got plenty of tools to get me in there, would make for an interesting conversation and hunting trip. So glad you guys have responded!!!
