Has anyone here tried to tumble Pyrite? I'm interested in trying, just looking for some direction.
Thanks,
Lyle

I have not seen it. it has very definite cleavage planes depending on the habit. I think it would not tumble polish well, but it might score in a geomtric fashion

I will probably try some in the tumbler and see what happens. I don't have a vibe at this time. I was thinking of putting pellets in there from the get go so they won't beat each other too much. I cut one of the nodules in half and sanded by hand with 600 paper Taken without flash. Lyle

I see tumbled pyrite all the time. Much is done by the sweat shops over seas. You see it for sale in many metaphysical places, as well as gift shops selling tumbled stones where you "fill the bag".
I'ver personally never done it, but would imagine it would be a messy, stinky batch when you opened the lid on your tumbler.
I'm sure if you dropped the search "tumbled pyrite" in google, you'll be flooded with sites selling metaphysical stones.

Thanks for the links. I will probably give it a try and see what happens.
When I sanded the stuff, it turned the water immediately black. The stuff I picked up came from a quarry in Texas.

It will stain the shit out of your tumbler and make black, sulfurous stinking water. I've done it before in a vibe. I won't do it again.

I tried it once also (in a rotary) It was a disaster of horrible smell and stain. I never took it past the course stage as it was not worth the effort. If you try it let us know how it goes (good or bad!)
