This might not be the right forum, and if it isn't, I apologize.
I have acquired an old Lortone 15-inch vibrating lap (Thanks, Tony!) and I subsequently ordered, and now have, a polishing pan for it. I've been running it with a couple of huge thunderegg quarters in the 'grinding' pan with 120/220 grit, both as a learning experience and hopefully to produce a pair of interesting bookends (maybe).
My question, for the flat-lappers in the crowd, is - should I Borax between grits, as I would in the vibe or rotating tumblers? I'm thinking I should - it just makes sense to me to want to ensure that I get all of the preceding grit off the stones, the pan, and the bumpers as I possibly can before moving on to a finer grit.
Thanks for any and all advice!
Tom

I don't know if Borax would be the best thing to use in a vibrating lap, but you definately want to clean everything as good as possible between grits. If your T-Egg quarters have crystal lined pockets, pay special attention to those areas. I use my air compressor at 90 PSI, with an air gun with a water pickup tube attached, and wash with a high pressure blast of soapy water.

No, no borax, I would however use some flake soap between, it does help clean both the stone and the lap.

Thanks guys! I did already do the Borax thing right after I posted this, and it got a whole bunch of grit off of the pan and the rocks. But I can see that it might be a little strong for the pan. I only let it jiggle for about an hour. I'll try something different next grit change.
Thanks!
