Howdy folks, Man, do you ever feel like sometimes this hobby is just frustrating as all get out? I just cleaned out my first batch of tumble cabs from the UV-10 tumbler. Been a year since I did any and I think this is the first batch I didn't run on the Mini-sonic. From forty one cabs all but six came out like garbage. Serves me right for changing some of my process. First off I got lazy cause it was cold on cleanout day and ran the fine grind stage five days. I think the UV-10 cuts more aggressively than the old Mini-sonic so this was mistake number one. Mistake number two was I think I used to use ungraded 220 grit for fine grind and for some reason I used 110/220 ungraded. Next, I don't know if it was a mistake or not but I used ceramic 3mm beads and rods for my carrier and filler instead of my usual tiny agate/jasper mix. Whatever it was a huge bunch of compounded screwups that resulted in a ton of undercutting , distorted shapes and chewed up cabs. Got to say it almost made me sick to see all my shaping and crowning shot to Hell. In addition, that grit dug out every pit it could possibly find *L*. Now, all the rest of these friggin cabs will have to go back on the wheels for reshaping, superglue filling, recrowning and heck, I'll just finish them on the wheels. Here is a pic of the awful mess I have to now fix. Believe me, these are all much much worse than they look *L*...Mel

Sorry to hear that, Mel. Pitted rock is the pits. (Sorry for the bad pun.) It seems like I don't see the pits until they're filled with polish and then I can't get it out. I'm going to have to get a dry cleaning sprayer.
The UltraVibes can be very aggressive, but I'm surprised you had so much trouble with banged up/misshapen cabs. It seems like there is no such thing as too much filler, but you know that already. That's why I'm surprised.

Chuck: The change in shape was not all that severe and rather than banged up, they were more eaten up by the fine grind is use for sanding to save time on the wheels....Mel

Frustrating?? Yea, abouy every other cab!! lol!! The ones in the pic don't look too bad, a little touch up and they should be fine.

This just goes to show even the experts have a bad day once in a while. ;D Now pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and go play with more rocks! Nate

From here they look good but I know what you mean when everything just does not turn out right! I stopped all of my tumbles for the past couple months because they were giving me fits. Same reason. Those are some beauties so I hope you can save them! Fran
