Some people obviously have more money then they have any business with, So why don't they just send it to me? I'm sorry but $32.00 per lb. is crazy! I like watching auctions like this just to see how stupid people will get.

I was just watching this one to see just how much people are willing to spend on a rock. I guess I'm pretty lucky to have access to this material from local rock shops. One of these days I'm going to drive the 10 miles or so and see if I can find a vein of it. I know where it's supposed to be, I just haven't gotten down there yet.

The price is a bit excessive to me too. How is the buyer going to make a profit at that price? There aren't many morgan hill poppy jasper cabs listed on EBay. However, there was one sold out of four for $8.99. If this person's motivation is to make a profit, it will be quite a while before he/she recovers the cost of the purchase. And then, what happens when everybody decides to cash in on their collections?

I've seen slabs of this material go for $20 on ebay and they weren't much bigger than what can be slabbed from that piece. I'm thinking of selling the slabs I posted pics of in the photos section.

let's see, you put it in a slab grabber and get say 7 slabs plus a heel. you get 2-3 cabs per slab, sell them for $45 each if you make good cabs for a grand total of $630-$945. it could work. suppose you only got 1/2 that you'd still get from $315-$472.50. if it's a top-notch wrapper or silversmith they might get $125 per finished piece (or more). ask sands how much he made on 2 wraps tonight . kim

I agree, But that’s market demand. I find most people who spend that kind of money on a rock are collectors. They may or may not cut. OR rarely had the time to because they to busy in their corporate jobs. For me, i will only spend upwards of $20 per pound for jasper that is a true gem. Like Morrisonite, Blue Mt, Willow Creek, or any orb jasper. Though i have in the past spent higher amounts on what other would say as i have done here. But i would be buying it as a collector. And if it could cut cabs, i may consider it, but not for profit.
But also, you must keep in mind that such pieces as this one is proven on two sides. And piece like Morgan hill as we are similar with, can be full of fractures. SO both those two things come into play with the price. As well, does the color. I personally like this grade of Morgan hill than any other i have seen from that location. The yellow color is a rare one in the lapidary kingdom. And its one of my favorite colors, so i can see why the price went high. I wouldnt of paid that though. I have enough in my collections. But i love watching Woodciles auctions, he list some real sweet looking stuff.
And please keep us posted ED if you find a vien. I would love to see this jasper in the wild.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the inside of the 23lb chunk Cal bought yesterday. I'm willing to bet he finds this coloring as well as every other coloring I've seen in this material.
