as you all know we are totally new to rock tumbling..we meaning.. cp and myself...had 1 of the guys that work for me bring back a 5 gallon bucket of dirt and rock from a place in franklin N.C. he said here ya go give me my 20 bucks back...i did...but i don't have a clue what in the world is in it...he said the guy told him for us to take sapphires out then we could tumble the rest together.. i don't have a clue what sapphires look like rough or anything else for that matter...we haven't had enough time to go thru it all..but there is some cool looking stuff..i was just wondering if someone could tell me what to expect from this large bag of stuff...the place is www.goldcityamusement.com ...i will post a pic of it all shortly.

heres a dumb question...there is a lot of stuff that didn't show much with the rinsin of the water hose..geez thats southern.. but anyway..would you just throw it in the tumbler for a day or 2...to knock off the crust...just to get an idea whats under it ...or go about it anather way?

yea thats the easy way just throw it in the tumbler with water and let it roll for a day or two i dont even think you will need grit if its just a light crust i let some stuff roll in my qt-66 for a few days and couldent believe how much the corners started roundin off that was without grit it might take longer with a smaller barrel cause the 6lbers have alot more motion the the smaller ones---if you only have like a 3lber id add some grit

Those buckets are becoming more popular, just like the gem mines. I was watching something on the Travel Channel about the mines, looks like fun! The owners guarantee finding some good stuff in there (saphires etc.) I'd recommend making a screen to sift out some of that dirt, just cut 4 two by fours, nail them together to make a square frame, attatch wire mesh to it and sift away!
