I was out the other day doing a little hounding with a friend from Goergia and started picking up some of this agate as a tumbleing rough for myself. Bigger pieces are pretty laiden with fractures but the smaller pieces ( 3/4" to 2 - 2 1/2" pieces are pretty clear of fractures And I thought maybe some of the other RTH'ers might be interested in tumbling some of this also. So I posted this as sort of a feeler to see if anyone else might be interested. I have to hike a ways to get this material and I've only found it in this one area. And I don't want to pack a bunch out if it seems to be just a ho hum type of rock. I mean it's not to me but not everyone sees it from my aesthetic perspective. If there is an interest I'll post flat rate pricing back here. I don't have a pay pal account yet so check or M O would work. PM me or post here if you're interested. TFL.... Gary

Gary , in my opinion , that would be great mix for the tumbler . and it would go quickly , if people are in the spending mood . i have been buying a lot lately . so don't count on me . but, don't count me out , either . --paul

Yep great mix for the tumbler.. But some of the stones should be cut or broken in half.. so most of the stones are roughly the same size.. Once broken and sized.. you can place the stones in a dry tumbler for a few days.. this will help shape the stones a bit better instead of hand cutting some of the less attractive ones. Sure I do a few dry or rough tumbles before stating the correct tumbling process. I do this because again. I don't have the correct equipment to actually shape the stones to my desired taste and look. As long as you have extra barrels to set aside just for the dry tumbles, you shouldn't have any issues.

I see some nice cabs in the larger pieces. Heck, if I lived anywhere near you, I'd help you carry that stuff out for an ammo pouch or 2 of the larger pieces. Don

Can't make it until spring thaw. I can barely get into town right now. Heading out to the Black Hills in June to hunt for Fairburns and TePees. Don

That does look awfully nice - I'd imagine you'd have several takers on this stuff. Sounds like it might be a job to get it out though. Bet you could rustle up a couple of "pack hounds" by the sounds of it though...

I received a box of this material from Gary today. This is going to be some very nice and colorful tumbling material. It has a slightly waxy look, almost like common opal, and should take a very high polish. I'll know for sure in about 2 months. Don

Hey Gary, I think you'd better collect a bunch of this material. Once the folks on here see some of it polished up, the orders will be rolling in. Even before polishing, this material is so dense and shiny that you can tell it's gonna tumble great. And it's gonna have some killer colors and patterns. I'm gonna load my tumbler this afternoon, and get this stuff started. Don

Is any of this stuff available? Maybe a small flat rate box to medium flat rate box? If so, what would it cost?
