Hi all, I recently went to Washington and spent 5 days with the parents. The area my dad is currently working at is not known for great rock and I even checked with an experienced/reliable source to verify this. I guess I just got lucky. ;D Here are a few pics on the way to where mom and dad are currently living. The mighty Columbia River: A train for size comparison: Some rock formations: Goats: My mom calls this formation "The Finger" because she said the first time she saw it from a distance, it looked like it was flipping her the birdie. ;D Hat Rock: The rock pit I decided to check out. It was VERY unstable with rock constantly showering down from above the cliff so I had to be real careful. Its mostly basalt but I found a wide area with crumbling reddish/tan rock. In it, I found a ton of druzy/zeolites and a few chunks of agate. Pretty exciting considering I see nothing but basalt where I live. I knew this one was going to be special the minute I picked it up. Some nice lavender on the outside: A bit of color peeking out when I got it wet. Woohoo! Look at this beauty on the inside: We even got a great sunset for our 5 hour drive home: Thanks for lookin, Shannon

Superb pictures, Shannon!
Is there a reservoir on the river in that area, or is it so big naturally?
The geolory of the area is so inmteresting, wit all those rock formations.
And the rock is a cherry on the cake. Looks like brecciated.

Beautiful river scenery. Wish I could pull the jet boat out of the snow bank and jump in. Nice Agate. Thanks for posting.

Great Pics Shannon! I am gonna be visiting my Family in Florence around the 24th of July for a week or so. I can't wait. I sure do miss Oregon. I love your find...no wonder you were ecstatic when you found it. The SUNSET is gorgeous and super intense as well. Makes you realize that God does exist! Steve

Thanks everyone!
Woody,
My first thought after cutting this one was that it reminded me of Stone Canyon Jasper. The bit of olive green with the gold makes it striking.

Thank you so much for the travel log to a place I've never been! where were the photos taken of the Columbia river & train. I was surprised to see how treeless it is there. And your rock find is awesome ! Nancy
