Been pondering the idea of selling some free form cabochons with the bezel. Let me know what you think, thanks.

I think they are beautiful! I hope it works out for you! Is there a hidden bail on them or will you leave it to the buyer to finish that part? Fran

Can't sweat a bail on if the stone is permenent. There are some sharp wrappers out there that could get around that though

No Bail or back, just a loose bezel that is soldered, everything else would be up to the buyer. Thank You.

Interesting idea Clint but I think if it were me, I'd want to attach a bail. But then I'm just starting out. To quote my kids sometimes -- 'Dad, you don't know' Nice looking cabs though that is for sure.

I really like that look - so clean and simple. I'm with the others though and wonder about a bail, but maybe just because I don't know anything about silversmithing.

I like them also. Very pretty stones with a nice shape to them. Selling them with a loose bezel for the buyer to finish might be a good way to go. Certainly worth a try!

Ok, I'll say what I think, but I don't think you'll like it. If you are just putting the bezel but not actually including the bail, you are not saving the buyer the work of silversmithing. They still have to make the bail. So it looks suspiciously like there is something wrong with the finish around the stone that you're just trying to hide with the bezel. I don't think you would do that. However, I think a lot of people would believe that you must be doing that. Otherwise, why quit the job halfway? Sell the loose cab so that it can be seen and inspected from every view, or sell a finished piece with bezel AND bail, but this halfway business...it would just look fishy a lot of times. I can't see any real terrific reason to leave the job at this point. There must be something I'm missing here.

wonder what your market is. Some one with no jewelry knowledge, would they know what to do with it. And a jeweler would have to love the stone before wanting to unset the stone to put a bail on, and wonder why there was no bail!
Now if you sell it as a pocket stone....

I'm no metal smith but my wife tried to be one once. She bought a 30 foot spool of bezel wire so we have plenty. My opinion is that anyone who does this kind of work likes to make their own, being able to control what type of solder to use.
Seems like most folks reading this think that there is a back involved and the stone is set. I understand that it is a loose bezel, ready to solder onto a back of your choice. Do you get requests for these Clint?
