I was at the commissary today at Tinker Air Force Base and found Ivory Snow on the shelf. The price was $1.99 a box. Is this what some used to burnish with? I did buy a box.

Not familiar w/ that brand, but it should be fine. We use the cheapest dry laundry soap we can find; generally a bucket at Costco. The stuff is all about the same, and I haven't met a brand conscious rock yet.

Yep, or shave a bar of Ivory soap.

Ivory Snow is the old standby. Can't get it here anymore, so I use Borax.

I've used Ivory Snow, and it worked great. Like Jakesrocks, though, I usually can't find it so am shaving away at Ivory Soap bars.

I've tried a few things and have gotten the best results from borax and a pinch of powdered dish washer soap. You can get borax in the hardware store.
