Here is a link to a web cam that is showing new rocks being made at Napau Crater, Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii. volcanoes.usgs.gov/hvo/cams/NCcam/Wonder how long it will be before we can start collecting? Tony

The collecting in Hawaii is a little disappointing- not much to find but lava and little crusts of sulfur in the fumaroles. Hawaii is a little too young geologically to have much to offer. There is low gradfe olivine/peridot and lots of basalt- that's it, otherwise. If you do go collecting, leave a bottle of gin for Pele- the old girl's a bit of a lush. Seriously, the Bishop Museum on Oahu has a very nice mineral collection. Not much from local sources, though.
