Hey guys, it is that time of year again, for the Franklin NJ show and the Sterling Mines show. Last year we had a great time meeting up with fellow RTH'ers, the Franklin show at the school was really awesome! I found a hotel that is a little cheaper than the Holiday Inn we stayed at last year. It is too late to hold rooms, so I suggest if interested you book soon. Rooms are about $70. To save some money we are going to drive up Saturday morning and go straight to the show and stay over on Saturday night. Here is the hotel information: Econo Lodge (NJ163) 448 Route 206 South, Newton, NJ, US, 07860 * Phone: (973) 383-3922 * Fax: (973) 300-5919 Show Information 30 April-1 May 2011: Franklin, New Jersey * 39th Annual New Jersey Earth Science Association Gem & Mineral Show * Organized by: Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society and New Jersey Earth Science Association and Sterling Hill Mining Museum * Franklin Borough School (50 Washington Avenue, Franklin) * Indoor / outdoor franklin-sterlinghill.com/franklinminerals/annual%20events.shtmlsterlinghillminingmuseum.org/Hope to see you there! MMmmmm geesh, just down the street from my old office in Totowa. Man, 10 hour drive, I am so tempted... gotta get momma to approve...lol...
The home I lived in before moving here was in Andover, just between Newton and Sparta. I think I'm gonna have to make this trip.

I think Amber and Tony are out due to so much going on in their lives right now and I know I will not be able to go. We are actually going to take a trip to San Diego for our granddaughter's arrival in July. If I go to the show, all my money would go to those beautiful rocks and slabs you can get. Just too much temptation! I hope to go next year though! Fran

Fran is correct, Amber and I can't make it. I blew out the Anterior cruciate ligament in my left knee playing basketball with the kids at work. I get surgery on 28th to get a cadaver ligament installed and will be in an immobilizing brace that weekend so I won't really be able to handle the drive or walking around a show. We will miss seeing everyone.

eeeuuuwww dead pieces! lol
Well, wish you a speedy recovery, and Amber hope she's feeling better! I'm not sure if I can make it since $$ is very tight, but I really want to go. Just haven't seen that many positive responses of those going, and won't want to be there by myself, all lonely and stuff.....

Hi, I have heard about the show from a dealer who sold us a mineral specimen. He sent a flier along in the package. I live in NJ about 1hr or so away. For a total nube would this show be a good place to learn a thing or two or is it primarily just a buying/selling type of set up? In any event I would love to have the chance to meet some of you great people on this forum.

I'll be there Saturday for sure and maybe Sunday. If anyone wants to meet up PM me or post here.
unclestu, the show at the mine was mostly mineral specimens but they also had some great deals on used equipment. The show at the school was worth the drive up from Ct. and you can learn a lot just by talking to the sellers and others you meet there.Hope to see some of you there.

The show at the school is as good as it gets for for finding slabs and cabbing material here in the northeast. We are sad that we have to miss it this year but I need to get the operation asap, I'm getting tired of being called Gimpy. lol

I will miss it too this year but I can tell you, I got some great deals last year! I did better in the parking lot vendor section than I did in the building but either way, great fun! There are some areas that are not so cheap and some that have great deals because they just want to get rid of stuff. Usually the people getting rid of someone else's collections offer the best deals because they don't know what they have. Anyone going, have a great time and don't be afraid to ask for a deal. The worst they can tell you is no. Fran
