Cant find the end cut right now. This is the slabs form about2/3 of the rock: all super solid. I cut them 5/16 for possibly double doming.

That's different! All the areas that look like cracks, those are healed fractures?

Yes, it is brecciated jasper. Camp Irwin is where Chapin found it originally but you can find it near Boron Lake and Siam Siding.

Yep, Chapenite has a pretty broad distribution. I've seen it from Ft. Irwin, China Siding, Lavic Siding, Hector Hills and occasionally at other desert sites in the same region. To me, the China Siding stuff is often more colorful with a lot of pink to red areas but it's a very variable material. Most that I have is from an old collection Bill's Rockyard bought up and it's supposed to be Ft. Irwin stuff.....Mel

A lot of the Camp Irwin material that was collected in the 50's and 60's had nice pastel pinks and purples in them. As soon as it warms enough to haul my saw out of the garage, I'll slab a big hunk and post pics. Don

Neat stuff, looks like a mass of cracks in it. We really enjoy the healed up stuff we find.

That's funny Mel. I had some green, lavender and reddish stuff and bought it at Bill Leslie's too. The man sure has the good stuff.

Boy John, I really miss Bill's rockyard. I used to hit it almost everytime I was heading home from the ranch to Ojai via the back way. Usually hotter than Hades out there but there were some real treasures in the rockpiles and crates and Bill and his wife were always the nicest folks ever.....Mel
