Got this real nice block of jade last summer from a rock shop in Victoria, BC. (Had to call ahead and ask them to pull some rough out of the basement. Glad I did.) This is the 1st slab which is no surprise - looks exactly like the face of the block. But this stuff was hard. The LS10 choked and stalled on it, and I did not want to try the LS12 because the block is not so thick for the clamp, so I finished by hand on the 10" trim saw. There is a very slight taper I will need to grind away. That is a crack at the bottom, and I am hoping that if treated with Opticon or HxTal it will fade away. There are also a few bubbles on the scanner, but there is a subtle hint of bluish-green in the otherwise green jade. This will definitely be kept largely intact and be a intarsia tile. I think a little of the white will come of the right side because it looks more like smoke than snow on a mountain. Here is the block:

Nice! Saw a few chunks of BC Jade at the KC show the other weekend. Looked them, drooled, and gently set them back down.

The price at this rockshop was quite reasonable - a fraction of the price at the Jade Store in downtown Victoria.
I have some other pieces, including some with green (chrome) flecks. If you will be passing through Lawrence anytime, let me know and maybe we can find you a piece to stop that drooling.

I didn't know there was a Jade store in Victoria? I usually browse at The Rockhound Shop in Victoria when we are visiting my in-laws.

Yes. I heartily recommend the ROckHound SHop. The one down on the harbor is very expensive. The jade is nice, but it is only from their 4 mines, and is $50/lb. Not all, but quite a bit of the stuff at the rockhound shop is just as nice - and more like $6-$8/lb.

Smoke on the water! That is nice, the contrast between the white & green. Also looks like a humongous lightning storm!
