I've searched around, and it doesn't seem like anyone scuba dives to collect rocks. As an avid scuba diver and a newb getting into rockhounding, it seems like there would be some great access to rocks that they average joe wouldn't be able to get to. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have a few ideas for some local spots to try. If I have any success I will post the results.

Sure, why not ? A lot of jade has been collected off the Northern California coast by scuba divers. Don't know of a reasonable reason why it wouldn't work in any water clean enough to see the rocks.

i hunt Oregon rivers with a custom wet suit, I'm 6.6 ft tall. and i fine some nice material. And the Mt. lakes are nice to hunt, cold some are 42 degrees in August. the suit is 7mm Fantom Quest.
In Lebanon Oregon some of my best Holley Blue is from deep water. And jaspers, petrified woods. large material i have to use a raft to float it down stream.
Though i only Snorkel for the material. And i put on a few buckets of weight since i had the suit made in 1990.

Jack, I'm in Oregon too, not far from Lebanon. Used to do a lot of steelhead fishing in that area. Some of the spots you mentioned are areas I thought might be interesting. Looking forward to the rain stopping and the rivers going down again!

There is a spot by Otis,OR..By the bridge between Otis and southwest to highway 101......Its about 30 feet deep, lots of rocks on the shoreline. I have two buddies that dive, one is in Montana,he hunts for fossils in the rivers, other in Carolina's,he dives in the rivers for fossils and sharks teeth.....

Inner tubes! You are a freaking genius! That would work awesome for the bags of scallops we get off the Oregon coast. Now I am really excited about going out and finding some rocks! I have a nice HID dive light that should "hopefully" help in picking out some good rocks.

Those are some great shots jcinpc! I'm not sure what I think about jumping in the water with a alligator (or crocodile ?) Do you ever find the big shark teeth like they do in the Carolinas?

I have collected rock on old ballast dumps here in Washington State. Sailing ships often came here in ballast. The ones from China left some very pretty onyx, ships from England left flint, and etc. The rock found in a ships ballast gives archaeologists an identification as what a ships last port may have been. I have also dove Jade Cove in CA, and the West Coast of New Zealand for jade. Woody
