I finally had a chance to order some sterling & gold wire. I watched and tried the technique of wrapping and used it on the fire agate I cabbed earlier. It took about a hour to wrap using square and half round sterling. It's probably a little loose in the setting but seems to be in place with little movement. I wasn't sure how to make swirls so I came up with the design you see. I put a little twist in the swirl to give it a special touch. I think it came out pretty good for my first try using the square and half round wire. All comments are appreciated. Do you think the swirls are to much or should I tone it down a little? Thanks! It looks fantastic for your first try. Only one thing that I see, close the 3 small loops on the back. They may pick a sweater. Ken

Honestly, I like the back better. Your bindings are nice and tight. The stone is loose because of the extra play at the top and bottom the stone. I'll use tape to secure the stone tight against the framing wires at the bottom while I work my way up to make sure I get a tight fit. also where you bend the top wires that come together to form the bail and how much gap you leave there between the stone and the bail is a problem area where you can introduce play in the stone fitting. lastly, on the back I would close those partial loops for the tag ends, as those cut ends tend to catch hair and clothing easily if left open like that.

Looks pretty good. I think I like the back better too. In my opinion, a stone like that needs all the attention.

That looks nice. Beautiful cab for sure. The wraps are nice and even which is hard to do especially when you're first starting out. I'm with Don and Ken, the loops in the back would be better if you closed them so they won't snag anything. Some people like swirls, some don't so it's just a matter of opinion on that. Keep up the good work.

The cab is beautiful and I know how hard it is to get started with wrapping! You have made a wonderful start! I would agree with Ken, close the loops on the back. I would also be concerned that the flowing wires on the front may be a little too wide and that increases the chance of getting caught on something and pulling it out of shape. Overall, I like the effect you are going for and keep up the great work! Fran
