I was out doing a little hounding the other day and found a little bed of these geodes and was wondering if anyone is familiar with or has seen something similar. Both halves of the one I'm holding there weigh exactly 1lb. It measures 2 3/8" x 2' x 1 7/8" and feels very heavy for its size This gives a general size of what I collected. The dark colored ones are solid and heavy and the light colored ones are solide but not as dense a material anybody got any ideas what they might be?.........gary

Those look to be barite nodules. barite often comes in that form land is very heavy. In Utah, many are agatized and therefore less heavy....Mel

Thanks Mel, that gives me someplace to start. I don't know anything about barite yet.
Ted, have only cut about 4 of them so far. Sooooo many rocks - so little time!

Tanya, I was thinking of firing up the 15" flat lap and see how these turn out since I probably won't have to weight them down.

Gary, That's pretty neat to stumble across these. I'd be curious to see if they are all similar once cut. steve

Steve, I've cut only 4 so far and they have been pretty consistant so far. I'll see if I can get some more cut today and post back to this thread if something new shows up
