Hello everyone! I have been visiting your site for a couple weeks reading and learning, finally took the time to register and join in. I am kinda new to rock tumbling and living in the nebraska flatlands don't have the greatest selection of rocks, but am makingh do,lol. I have some nice rock samples from my traveling days when I was a amature rockhound, and all that. I miss it but family comes first. Anyway looking forward to learning more about this hobby and add it to my other hobbies(passions) I am a devote fisherman, and chase large catfish, my best so far is a 73 lb beast, caught and released. I also do metal dectecting which is fun and great excercise too, lol I need it. I have several gravel and rock pits near me with some decent gravels and such, and my children like to spend hours looking through gravel and picking out "pretty" rocks for the tumbler.
I am also looking for where everyone gets their grit for a good price. buying a couple oz packs sucks at the stores here it is all I have found.

Welcome! Got 2 bounty hunters! Just wish I had more time to use them. Best find was an 1864 2 cent piece. This is a great place to hang out. The rock shed is my goto place for grit also. Great people working there.

Where abouts in Nebraska are you ? I'm north of you in S.D. Lots of nice rocks in N.W. Nebraska, and laker type agates can be found along the rivers and streams in the eastern part of the state. And you guys are loaded with fossils. Don

I am way down in south central nebraska, about 45 miles north of the Kansas border. We have some nice fossil hunting areas, the gravel pits I have full access too are full of some nice glacial deposits of rock, I do find quite a bit of agate, moss agate, etc, but it is usually in smaller peices, so by the time it is tumbled good there isn't much left but a pea to fingernail sized peice. I will try to get pics up on my next batch when it is done, all my previous polished stones have been given away, my kids take them to school a few at a time and their friends always want some, it don't take long to get rid on a load, lol. I am usuing a whites 2010 coinmaster for metal detecting, works pretty good, I have found some rings, chains, and tons of clad, along with tons of junk. I am going to build a bigger tumbler here soon, I have collected a 1/2 hp motor, four pillow block bearings that are rated for 5,000 lbs each(overkill is awesome) and have got two 2 1/2 foot long 1 inch diameter tool steel shafts, just looking for the barrel materials to come to me before putting it all together.

Use a Minelab X-Terra 70 myself. Haven't had much time to get out with it. Trying to get access to an old abandoned farm up the hill from me that dates back to the late 1800's. I tumble 15 pounds at a time, and give most of it to the local Girl Scouts for craft projects. Don

Welcome aboard, likely you will find this forum a very interesting and informative place. So much going on. We get our grit from an industrial supply, 50# bags are a lot, but from the sound of the upcoming project you will use it.

Rockshed and Kingsley North both have great prices on grit. Rockshed can provide tumbling advise as well. In larger quantities, industrial supply companies like Miles Supply are pretty popular. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. I get mine from the Rock Shed. In my opinion hands down the best. Great customer service and fast delivery along with great prices. Again, welcome and good luck with the tumbling.
