This is one of Curry's auctions, right? I'd love to go and check it out for once! Hopefully I can get my breaks fixed today so we can make the trip out there!!

So this was my 1st auction I've gone to. Made some nice deals & got a lot of petrified wood. Got out of there about 11:30. At 6:30 I get a message at home to call the auction company back. Called back at 8:30 and apparently some slouch watched me leave and used my number! Now I still have the number so whoever it was did not show his/her number but just stated it. I was not billed for it but the auction company lost out. Pretty sad....

That is really shady that someone stole your number. For shame. I am sure in the future they will make sure they check to see that everyone has 'their' number card.
I also dropped by and checked it out. I Didnt get to stay too long since it was cold and the pregnant DW did not bring adequate outerwear and had to wait in the car.
I saw some stuff I would have liked to buy, but they were nowhere near auctioning them off by the time we left (maybe 11 or so).
Hopefully next time I will be able to stick around for a bit longer and meet some folks. For those that were there, I was the tall fellow walking around with a 5-year old on his shoulders.

that sucks to have somewone use your # i'm surprised they don't ask to see a drivers lic. when you get your # and when you check out. that may weed out the lowlifes. i did get about 12 flats of rock, 1 larger rock really heavy for its size with a really dark purple-blue sheen. nobody else knew what it was either.

is it a metallic purple-blue sheen? If so, it could be covellite from Butte, MT.
Covellite is an ore of copper, so pretty dense/heavy.

you may be right nuevomundo, is covellite mainly specimen material or can cabs be made from it if stable enough?

So far as I know, there are only two places that produce(d) cabbing-grade covellite. One is in Butte, MT and the other is Peru. Often it forms as thin, bladed crystals or crusts, but if the piece you have is solid (massive) covellite it should be good to cab. Some of the stuff I have seen from MT can have pits, so you may need to fill those with opticon, hot-stuff, etc. to get a mirror polish.
Good luck! That was a good find. I think covellite is really neat. That metallic blue sheen is totally unique among minerals!
