i'm only on my 2nd polish step and this might be a dumb question but exactly what are we looking for at 2 day intervals? i know it said to check every 2 days but i don't know exactly what i'm checking for - i enjoy looking but there must be a reason for this. can someone tell me?

I check on mine just to see how advanced the polishing is. Since the length of polish time varies, I don't leave rocks to polish for 8 days if they are ready after 6. Other than that, it just makes me feel like I'm doing something I guess . besides just waiting. Ron ...by the way, when I check, I remove a half a dozen or so rocks, rinse them off and set them aside to dry without and wiping or rubbing. After they have dried, I look them over and them carefully buff them with a soft cloth. I then make my decisions based I what I see.

My only concern with running the polish too much longer than necessary would be the increased chance of impact damage. The more opportunity that you give something to wrong, the more likely that it will happen, or something like that.

ok i checked - these are driveway rocks - they've been in 7 days and are looking really good except the rocks that were round, flat, smooth live a river rock. they are polishing on the top and bottom but the edges don't seem to be getting any polish. i noticed this 2 days ago when i checked. it almost looks like it was sanded off but actually i guess it never had any to be sanded off. has anyone seen this before?

Yes. Certain rocks that I pick up in the yard always end up like that. As far as I can tell it has to do with the crystal structure of the rock. There are some rocks that vary in hardness in different directions do to the structure of the crystals. I have had some luck with those stones by moving them to a load of slightly softer rocks.

p.s. Some rocks simply will never polish well.
