How hard is it? We have a big chunk of fushite that looks like your rock but that's real soft and flaky...

No , this was giving to me . it is not a Illinois rock . Hardness is 6 1/2 . it`s not jade , fuschite , or epidote . Todd -it does resemble maw sit sit ,but i don`t know much about it , it resembles gaspeite , and likewise .

The rock in the pic looks solid, I thought gaspeite was troublesome...

I thought at first Serpentinite, but too hard for that. Then I thought maybe Phyllite, they get some good green samples up in Maryland once in a while, but I think it's also too hard and grain size looks to be too small for that. Have you ever used the Rock Key to try and identify a stone? It's been pretty helpful to me in the past. Hard to do it from a photo, but you might give it a try: Rock Key

Ted that is a beautiful shade of green and looks solid. Now I will expect to see a beautiful green cabochon.
Wow Robin, I've never seen the rock key but I checked it out and I like it. That could become very useful for me. Thanks for posting that. I can't help but wonder what over cool things are on this site.

It's Bob's rock shop, believe me you can wander though his stuff for hours and never find an end to it. I've found all kinds of neat things there. I've also copied off that key to a word document so I have it offline, but with hyperlinks so that if I need to look something up I just hit ctrl-and click on the item and it takes me right to it. Free to any if you want it. I've found that key very helpful in the past.

I'm thinking some nice green Adventurine if it has mica as it appears to in the 2nd pic. Too hard to be fuchite.

What are you going to do with it? Cut it? You could do a cab so we could see what it looks like!
