Well, was just about to give John a call over at JS Gems last week when my lawn tractor died a horrible screaming death. Ho hum, paid $2400 for it like 12 years ago, guess it had lived enough, plus it was slowly falling apart.
Well, driving through one of the very nice neighboring towns two days ago, I passed a gentleman unloading a beautiful John Deere lawn tractor in front of a consignment shop, so I had to turn around and give it a look, even though I knew that a JD was WAY out of my cheapo budget.
OMG this thing was just gorgeous! It only had 44 hours on it and the guy wanted $1400 for it, almost double my budget. So, I told him I thought it was too much, he said he'd take $1200 without the automatic bagger attachment. Still too much.
So I went home and attempted to mow my yard with our ancient push mower. After one pass from the back yard all the way out to the street in front, I just gave up. I'm just too darned fat and old to be doing that kind of labor. So the next day I got up and called the guy, said I'd give him $1000 cash for it, as is.... couldn't believe the guy immediately said yes!
So, this morning we went to pick it up. Had a heck of an adventure getting it on the trailer, I've never had a tractor with this kind of power. I weigh in at around 340 and this thing, when I was driving up the ramp onto the trailer, decided to do a wheel stand on the back wheels, then turned right and tried to jump off the trailer. LMAO> If it hadn't been for the cutoff switch in the seat, when I fell off the thing would have run me right over.
My friend's son, who was helping, was about to pee himself laughing, I'm laying on the ground roaring, and all I could think of was, "where's the cameras when you need them?". So, no damage to the tractor and the only damage I sustained was three points taken off my man card.
Got the sucker home and have had a blast with it today. Quietest, smoothest tractor I've ever ridden on, and way too much power!
Some pictures of "Spike", my new toy:
Blue circle below, that's one of the neatest things I've ever seen on a lawn tractor, there's a quick-disconnect that comes with it, you put it on the end of your garden hose, then snap it on, turn up the water and run the mower with the blades turning - it cleans the underside of the mowing deck!!!
Bagger on this is just brilliant! Mowed about 1/4 acre before I had to dump the first time!
So, I got this for a steal at $1000, full tank of gas, only 44 hours on the motor. I mean it's like brand new! I went by Jeff Gordon's Power Outlet where they sell JD tractors and found the same setup for $2400!!!
Forgot to mention, it has a canvas cover for when I'm too hot (omg), a beer holder (well, Iced Tea holder for me), a magazine rack (well, it's a thingy on the side like you'd put magazines in, not really sure what it's for), a clip on storage unit for your cell phone, and a slot for you MP3 player so you can listen to music while mowing! First tractor I've ever had where I didn't need earplugs while using it, it is that quiet! What a great deal!!!!!!
Only thing is now I'm going to be without my flat lap for a couple months, need new wheels and it's going in storage until I can afford them...sigh...
