Texas is a pretty big state and the rain has gone all around it but they haven't gotten much this year. They call that west Texas but it is more like northern central area. Still, quite a ways from Dallas. My house that my youngest lives in is in west central Texas and that is at least a 4 hour drive from there in Tom Greene county. Mel and Tom are farther south and southeast but I am not sure about Condor or Texas Woody. There are some others too so I hope they will chime in and let us know they are OK. Fran

I dont know the exact location of it, but its 4 or 5 hundred miles from me.The winds have been blowing 20-30 mph for weeks, temps 90 for the high, supposed to get a weak cool front today, switch the wind around and drop temps about 10 degrees. We just cant get any rain,15 inches below normal last year and now. There is an old Texas joke about the wind.A visitor to the Texas panhandle asked an old timer, does the wind always blow this way? Nope, said the old-timer, sometimes it comes from the other direction.

Yeah, I'm across the state from it, too. It's been extremely dry here though and fires are a constant threat.

The first fire is to the southwest of Wichita Falls in an unpopulated area. The second one is near Ft Davis and to close to Woodward Ranch. Its about 40 miles due west. Prayers going out to my former home TEXAS!

My older sister lives in Seagovillle, basically a suburb of Big D, and mom lives in Ore City, way out east, so glad both are not in the path of the fires!

Yeah, pretty far from us but we are really dry here and we're always worried about fire. If we don't get rain soon, some of the many small fires we've been having could easily become a big one. Still nothing like as bad as back in California though. Our ranch there was almost burnt out like very other year.....Mel

Yeah, here in California we have fires to clear the brush off the hills to get ready for the rainy season so we can have mud slides. Eventually, if you live near anything flammable, it'll burn. These are pictures from 2005 from in front of my house. We've had three other nearby fires since then. It was amazing watching the firefighters work these flames. The fire would burn almost down to the buildings and then they would hit them hard from air and truck, then head on to the next hot spot. The copters would descend on the other side of the freeway over the Ventura River and suck up water to drop over the fire. Spotter Plane And the helicopter coming down over the freeway into the Ventura River, then taking off right over the neighborhood to hit the flames. Lowell

Yep, the current batch of Texas fires are way west of here, but even around this part of the state, it's been so dang dry for so dang long ... anything can start a major fire. Lots of cedar in the rural areas - it's so dry that the least little spark can make cedar practially explode. At least, in the urban areas, there's not so much danger - most folks water their vegetation once a week (the water suppliers are recommending once every 2 weeks), so the lawns and shade trees aren't as prone to flashing.
I saw where the authorities evacuated the town of Fort Davis, out in west Texas - I feel bad for those folks.
