:-Hi everyone,
I came across a seller on the bay who was selling 1lb+ lots of individual varieties of stone. I asked if the seller would offer a discount if I purchased say 10 or more lots. I explained to the seller that I was new and I wanted to get some really nice varieties for tumbling. The seller came back with an offer to sell me saw scrap that has accumulated from the sellers cuttings. The seller offered to sell me his scrap at $8.00 a pound. This price seems kind of high to me. Does this price seem fare? The stone that are in the scrap are laguna agate, crazy lace agate, kingman turquoise, cinnabar quartz, mooka jaspar, ocean jaspar, picture jaspar, amethyst sage agate, moss agate, stone canyo jaspar, kaleidoscope jaspar, rain forest jaspar, lapis, chicken track picture jaspar, and many others The seller has about 50 Lbs of the stuff after having sold a lot in December.
I have no experience in buying what do you all think of the offer of $8.00/lb for the cutting scrap? If it is to high what would be a fare price?
Thanks for all the help

I think the price is pretty high. Usually that stuff is under $2.00 lb. I would ask here if anyone has some. PM me your addy and I will send you a small flat rate of tumble rough to get you started.

on the other hand, I'd take a lb of kingman turquoise scrap for $8 any day of the week.

You didn't ask this question, but just in case it helps you I will chime in. The mix you are describing will not all tumble together. Some is very hard and will "beat up" the softer stuff. If you have never tumbled before, you might want to look for mixed agates/jaspers or other Mohs 7 rocks. When I first started, I didn't have a clue of how to separate, and after a number of years I still screw up every now and then.

Laguna agate and Turquiose at $8 a pound is pretty good. But saw scrap is just that- SCRAP. Endcuts, trimmings, ect. I personally would pass on that deal- take a look at the Buy Sell Swap section. There is always a good deal going on there.
