Howdy folks, As some of you know, I had some rock sales awhile ago so I could buy me some new boots. Mary Ann was chiding me that I hadn't posted pics of the boots yet *L*. So here they are, the first pair at least. The second pair is still being made and I won't get them till May. These are Dan Post gambler wingtips in weathered leather. More subdued than a lot of my boots but you can't beat Dan Post for comfortable boots and they are made in America, Texas in fact *L*.....Mel

Nice lookin boots Mel. I only bought one pair of Dan Post and never bought another. They were the most uncomfortable boots I've ever worn. That was 30 years ago so maybe they're better now.

Never wore any wesern style boots, always square toe lineman boots. Looks like they would pinch your toes together. Plus, in my opinion, they are butt ugly. ;D ;D ;D :2cents: Sorry, I couldn't help myself, being an easterner from birth. Now misplaced in the mid-west. ;D Ken

Whose bed have your boots been under? ;D Beautiful leather work. I'd like to see some stones incorporated somehow in it Adrian

Yeah, with cowboy boots beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like gaudy and fancy stitching. I've worn pointy or snip toe designs all my life and they don't pinch your toes unless sized wrong and they are great for hooking a stirrup. The pointy types are considered old timey and retro by the younger folks. I don't wear spurs so I don't like the heavier designs with the spur shelf in back that are so popular with the dimestore cowboys now. The softer leathers like elk and deerskin are better for all day wear and I have several pairs of those that are like wearing slippers they are so comfortable, especially the soft tanned Dan Post deerskins and Dan Post Sidewinders which really are classy looking and fit great.. I love the designs on Old Gringo boots but those are not as comfortable and too fancy for everyday wear. I guess you can see I love boots almost as much as rocks *L*. And Jack *L* I do have laces on my rockhounding hiking boots., It'd be criminal to wear purdy, fancy cowboy boots under those conditions....Mel

I used to be a line dancer and had a pair very similar but they were Laredo and after back surgery the dancing went away. I just could not bring myself to wear them outdoors so my Great Niece wears them in her horse shows. I'm sure yous are better boots being specially made for you but I was a little shocked at the "subdued" part of that statement. I love them but they don't seem to be subdued.

Tanya:Nope this pair is right off the shelf. It's the second pair I'm waiting for. Takes about four months for the factory to get those done up. Y'all must not have been n a boot shop lately. These are fairly plain compared to the real fancy boots.....Mel

Those are some nice boots. Those are much to pretty to wear in the bush rock hounding though.
My biggest problem with cowboy boots is that they almost all have flat soles with little to no grip...... Now if i could just figure out how to put a chunky vibram sole on the bottom then they would be for me. Looking forward to seeing the custom pair when they are finished.

Mel:
Did you have a last made for the new pair? The off the shelf pair sure look good. My father had boots made somewhere in Texas by a place that was famous for their snake proof western boots, really great boots, but my feet a larger. Woody

Woody, No the pair I'm waiting for are factory made too. You just get fitted and then have to wait for the Lucchese factory to make them. I wanted that worn look buffalo hide that's not available through most stores. We have a custom boot maker who is a neighbor but his waiting list is like years long and prices start at over a thousand dollars with some going around $5000. To pricey for me as I'm pretty rough on boots. I'd have to sell a lot more rocks to pay for boots that fancy *L*.
Sampson: Yep those leather soles are slippery and not really meant for field wear unless your horseback or on a substrate like arena sand. I had some elkskins custom resoled with vibram one time and those lasted quite awhile . Were kinda the best of both worlds...Mel
