The MK303 and the MK301 Gem king are both great blades and Barranca makes very similar blades too, Eloxite has the MKs on sale right now 303 at $68.40 301 at $95.96. John at JS gems who is a member here may be able to beat those prices so I'd check with him first but I buy from Eloxite a lot and they do have good prices. I'm running a 303 on my Covington 10" right now and it is a really nice blade.....Mel

Habbie A rock coming out of your vice will damage a expensive blade also. Maybe you need to get cheaper one until you learn to clamp your rock. If your blade is just bent or kinked a little hammer work might get it to cut again. Maybe just for trimming. What have you got to loose. Rocks coming loose does happen to us all. Last week sent me to the hardware store for a new drive belt because the rock turned and clamped the blade and burnt the belt into. After every cut I grab the rock in the saw and give a tug. If it moves I look to see why. Sometimes you saw through a fracture and loosen the vices grip. Welcome to the crowd. Don

ty for all the replies, I check the rock when I clamp it down but something gave on this one. I would hate to use a cheap blade and ruin the rock when I cut it, think I will do it the stupid way and go with the good blades.

Buying a good blade certainty is not stupid and a cheap blade is not going to ruin your rock unless your are cutting something like opal or lapis or some other expensive rock that you might want to use a thin blade for. From what I have seen high dollar blade will last longer and MAY give you more cuts for your dollar. But they get kinked too.

lol meta ur a funny guy ! i looked it up ... The MK-301 provides superior cutting performance for hard materials such as agate, petrified wood or jade. and the 303 is for less material loss and speed ...

MK 301 is actually a thinner kerf than the 303 ( .040 as opposed to .050 for the 303) so it uses less rough but it has a special hardened core for more blade strength and less dishing plus it has a very aggressive edge design and more depth of diamond on the edge. The 303 which I'm using right now does cut well and makes very very smooth cuts.....Mel

Well, if you look up the MK and BD blade part numbers you will find they are the same blades. The 301 (new style) has a taller rim and wedge shaped segments in the core so it will out perform the 303C. A 303C .040" blade has the same core and thickness as the 301. Same factory in Korea makes both the 303 and 301. Both work very well in 10" saws.

Hmm just going by my Eloxite catalog on the blade thickness measurements. I've not used a ten inch MK 301 but the catalog says the 303 is thicker. Not that .010 matters much in the big scheme of things *L*. Ran my new saw again for a couple of hours after horses today and it is really cutting nice and on hard materials too....Mel

10" 303C is available in .032", .040", and ,050". 301 only comes in .040". I wouldn't use the .032" in a power feed saw but always did on my hand feed saws.

Yeah, I've never used a blade that thin except for trimming. I always figure thicker is better when using the power feed. Excellent power feed on that Covington ten incher.....Mel
