Probably a dumb question, but do you need to orient rainbow obsidian a certain way to get the best slabs from it?

You do if you want that rainbow to show on your cab.

Diane, there is an explination here in more than one of these threads on how to correctly position the piece for cutting. If I can find some, I will post back here.

Diane: There are two strategies on cutting for best colour. Fiorst one, you cut at about 15 degrees to the place of colour. This will cut through the colour layers giving a shingle effect of colours. The second way is to cut parallel to the colour bands, then when you dome the cab you will get the layers in rings. Both produce colour, but a wee bit differently. To get colour at all you must cut either of these ways. Just remember the colour bands are not straight lines, so each piece will be different. Woody
