I think it is a silicon lubricant. I use the spray silicon lube from Home Depot ($3 something for a giant can). I spray my polish pad before applying the compound. You could dampen the pad with the liquid but I'm guessing it will cost more.

Flat lap or wheel?
DO NOT OVERUSE.
Flat lap, 1-2 drops to evenly disperse the diamond paste or powder.
Wheels may take 3-4 drops.
DO NOT OVERUSE (did I mention that?).
I use a piece of windshield wiper to squeegee both the extender and the diamond on manually (no power to the motor), and a bright light at an angle to the disc/wheel to a glare to see the coverage better.
I've used the spray John spoke of and it works well, but I don't spay directly on the machine (I used the above method). I have a gallon of silicone oil so by the year 2525 I may have put a dent in it. ;D

Not the same brand but all the silicon sprays are about the same I think. I use a lot for non-lapidary and have fond a lot of brands including RV section at WalMart, auto parts store, and Home Depot next to the WD40.

If you mean on a polish disc for lapidary, I use about 6 drops of diamond compound on a 5.5" canvas pad. Reapply as needed.
