WELLL.....i had this beautiful slab of tiger eye 9x4 (or so) ....i thought i would cut it and make like a wind chime to catch the sunlight....you know....soooo i got out my trusty dremel with a diamond disk on it and cut off a half inch piece and used my wet/dry sand paper and shined up the piece and it looked real pretty.....but it took forever . so i sweet talked a guy at lowes into cutting the rest for me on their big wet saw...i thought it would really look nice cut on the diagonal....i got about 11 or 12 pieces....i'm all excited..WRONG!! it turned the sides black. i think it burnt them and ruined all the pieces .he must have pushed it through too fast . anyway,i thought because i couldn't buff this black off them if i could just sand it faster i could remove it......(so i thought of my little mouse from my getting old furniture at yard sales and stripping it days) used some 2 sided tape to get the wet/dry sand paper to stick and wet it a little and couldn't figure out how to hold the piece in one hand and the dang mouse was gonna viberate outa my other hand and i couldn't get any pressure on it.....sooo, i went and found the styrofoam and the ever handy duct tape and this is what happened......but the story doesn't end there......nope.....so i got the thing ready and got a piece of tiger eye about 6 inches long and laid it down on that dang thing and it shot outa my hand sooo fast and shot half way across the room.... i thought i was gonna die laughing at myself....and once i finally was able to hold it on there to do any sanding it still didn't help....they are still black on the side (as you might be able to see) and not worth a shit....but trying to figure something out is half the fun. maybe once i get my grinder i will have a go at it again.....but i did put a smaller piece of this in the vibe and it looks wonderful except the sides are shiny black not the shades of gold they should be... i hope i made you guys laugh......this from an old crafter at a new craft please don't applaud me......just throw rocks

Interesting story. The moral here is to keep ur rocks far from Lowes lol I hope you have that pluged into a GFI recept. Water, stainless steel, and electricty are not compatable - at all

:'(I have also found that when I cut Tiger Eye on the diagonal that the sides are black, I think that it has to do with the layers of the material. I think that it will always do that, I might be wrong but, :nono: I will not cut it on the diagonal again :nono: . Nice story though, I like your rig. Tammy

I noticed that you "drain" into your sink - bad idea - rock powder from working it (cutting, grinding, sanding) will act like cement and clog your pipes up over time
Are the edges the golden color? you may have the tigereye sparkle on the edges instead of the flats

i only used this that one time.....and it didn't work ...i never let any water drain into my sink i just kept the sandpaper wet, no running water .....i knew that water and electric wouldn't be good together. i was very careful... i mainly posted this picture to get the photobucket program up and running ....if i can find the one piece that i cut and polished up by hand, i will post it.....it was very nice....

I believe that is called "imagineering"; homemade, certainly. Thanks

Where there's a will there's a way! I think it's a fantastic idea. Just be careful with the water usage.
I've worked tiger eye a few times, and not seen any parts turn black. Not sure what's going on there.

great thinkin. Keep figuring stuff out like that and you will have built a full-on cabber in no time. Although as long as you keep water out of it you could make cabs with that!
