topeka.craigslist.org/art/2286299098.htmlI'm trying to figure out (without driving up there) what size this saw would be. The guy on the other end really knows nothing about it, other than it was his grandpa's "stuff". My last email to him asked him to measure the blade that is still in there, but he hasn't replied back yet. So - any guesses on size and model of this "Lortone slab saw" judging by the admittedly horrible pic of it? Does the tumbler behind it help at all? (Guessing those are 20lb tumbler barrels based on current Lortone product line, but again, just a guess...)

Lortone ls-10 or st-10 (10" blade). Good saw, feed uses a gear motor that goes out sometimes but is easy to replace. Tumbler looks good too. Not a bad price for all of it.

Looks like my Lortone ST-10 so it should use a 10" blade.

Okay, next question. I have a 10" Covington saw, brand new (basically - never been used, but about 30 years old) that I just haven't had a chance to finish getting set up (missing a few screws, needs a motor, needs mounted, etc.).
Which would be the better saw in the long run? Any speculation?

Personally, I would think you would need to run 2 of them at once. Too many rocks, so little time.
Tony
PS, the older Covington stuff should be pretty good, but the 10" Lortone saws are good also.

Does your Covington saw have an auto-feed? I do like that feature on the Lortone saw. I guess it depends on what kind of shape is the Lortone saw compared to your Covington. Sounds like you could get your Covington saw up and running without too much trouble. Did you also want the big tumbler?

Nope - the tumbler would probably be turned around and re-sold. I don't even keep my 3 lb. tumblers going now, can't imagine trying to keep 3 20lb tumblers going!
I think I'm going to pass on this and just get the 10" Covington up and running. Thanks everyone!
