I just got back from another week of prospecting and have a few pics to share. I spent one day hiking out "jade-ish" boulders from one of my claims and the first pic is the Fraser river just downstream of that claim. A different claim looking downstream after an overnight snowfall Here is the moose looking where we are going. I'm pretty sure he was thinking "when can i get out and run around, dad?" Heres some old cabins with my truck in front. And some of the old hand forged nails that help show the age of the old buildings. I know these pics aren't really rock related but i hope you like them anyways. Sampson

Wow, that is some rough and rouged country but it is beautiful and I love the Moose. It appears he loves to travel as well. Thanks for sharing the trips to your claim.

Those hand made nails certainly date the architecture. Beautiful scenery.
What's the deal on salmon. Are you allowed to fish your cliam.
Darryl.

Hey Darryl, fishing is allowed on claims but there are many seaonal restrictions on what you are allowed to keep. There are times when you can fish for different types of salmon, sturgeon, and many kinds of trout as well. Most of the smaller rivers, creeks, and lakes around there also abound with fish which help provide for a nice cheap and healthy meal when out on the claims. Here is a pic of some of the gold from one cleanup on my last trip. Sampson

Glad you like that first pic, i had to work pretty hard to get it. That shot was taken fairly early in the morning and the sun was just hitting the snowy peak in the background. Due to the shadows along the river and the bright reflection off the snow any regular shots either showed the river well, or the peak well, but not both in one exposure. Too much dynamic range to capture it all well. I used a technique called HDR (high dynamic range) which uses multiple exposures of the same shot then blends them to capture the highlights from the dark exposures and the shadows from the lighter exposures to provide for a good level of detail and exposure throughout the shot. I think i snapped off about 50 or 60 shots to finally get a hdr exposure series that i thought would make the shot. Then had to wait till i got home from the trip to blend in photoshop and confirm that i got the exposures/shots i needed to make it work. I am still quite new to hdr but it is quickly becoming one of my favorite new photography techniques.

Great pics. It is funy that there would be restrictions on fishing out in the middle of nowhere. Not like you're taking the fish to market...

These are gorgeous pix. I love the one of Moose in the truck too LOL!
Nice haul too. How much gold is in that vial? A gram or 2?

Yea Toad, i think the fishing restrictions up there are pretty funny too when i can spend weeks alone and not see another person.....but then again it isn't like there is anyone up there to enforce the rules if i did happen to want fish for dinner. NDK, the gold in that vial weighed out at 0.65 grams and came from a 0.2 cubic meter sample so the overall grade would be just over 2 grams per meter.... which makes it a nice mechanical mining target. I currently only have one mechanically permitted set of claims in operation and am prospecting for a couple additional targets while i wait for the snow to melt up north. Tbyrd, i do feel lucky almost every day that i am up in the bush. I just got back from another week long trip and i had a great time. The hardest part about full time prospecting is trying to remember to stop every once in a while and let it all sink in. I went farther south and higher in elevation than my last trips and didn't find too many interesting rocks.....except the shiny yellow flakes of gold in my pan. Here are a couple shots i liked from this trip. First shot is one of the nice colored little birds that hang around camp and provide the background music. Next is a little black bear who got pretty interested in me for a while....until the moose spoke up and told him where to go. This bear kept coming closer and sitting down to watch me every once in a while until he finally got a little too close and stood up to get a better view. I was able to snap a couple pics of him before the moose decided it was time for him to leave. Good moose. Too bad i wasn't able to set up for a more stable shot of him and there is a little camera shake making it a little blurry....i love the way he kept sticking out his tongue at me. Last is a long exposure shot of a little creek just before dark. The rock looking objects in the cool pattern are actually remnants of the old bridge pilings before they put in the new bridge i was standing on to get this pic. I did find one nice agate piece and some very decent gold but they are still in the truck and not cleaned up so i will post some pics of them later when i have a little more time. Hope you like these shots. Sampson

Thanks for the photos. You're a really good photographer. I've read through your other thread (on digital photography) and it's been really helpful. Thanks!

Thanks Tony and Paul, glad you like thepics. I figure it is better for me to add to this post with the pics from my recent trip rather than making a bunch of seperate posts. My latest prospecting trip was a challange with some very wet weather, rough muddy roads, and a closed ferry causing a 6 hour detour. I made the best of it and still had a great time. I found a ton of agates and other nice rocks while exploring some new areas, saw some amazing scenery, and hung out in the rain with many, many deer. It was a challange to get any good pictures due to the weather but i snapped up over 600 shots and am happy with a few of them. I found some absolutely amazing viewpoints that i will have to revisit during better weather. The first shot i will put up was taken during the middle of the night and was the most clear and rain free part of the entire trip. For the camera people out there...this shot was taken at 800 iso and a 30 second exposure with light cloud obscured moonlighting...slightly touched in photoshop for contrast and brightening/exposure. I like the way the water turned out so glassy and the stars showing in the sky. Second shot is the river looking upstream and the ferry from the west side of the river after the six hour detour. I do have some ok shots from the east side that shows the old reaction ferry a little better that i will post later when i have time. The next two shots are very remote and just about at the end of the logging roads. It took me almost all day driving and one almost impassable snowy mountain pass, but i broke first trail this year through to get to these shots. The second of these two was so peacefull it was hard to pull myself away to get on with my trip....I will definitely have to visit here again during better weather. The last pic here is a portrait of a mule dear who hung out with me in the rain for a while. One of the benefits of being so remote is that many of the animals have never seen people before and she was much more curious than afraid. She stood around for a half hour or so while i talked to her and was able to get this shot from about 15 yards away. I did get a few more pics i will add later when i have some more time to go through them but for now i hope you enjoy these shots. Sampson
