Howdy folks, Had the day almost totally free yesterday so I cut the heck out of my Texas wood pile. Here are the days pics. Thanks for lookin.....Mel First off, the last two cuts off the piece that stopped the saw the other day. I flat love this stuff! Next, cuts off a black shrinkwood round: Another cool piece of wood, shrinkwood but mainly in red colors. This is translucent too. Closer look: This one was a welcome surprise. It was wood but is a total agate replacement with no wood pattern remaining. Instead, the inside is beautiful moss agate. Closer look: Next one is some of the prettiest palm I've ever cut. Tiny white specks when magnified are agatized too and are tiny tubules within the main vascular bundles. It's amazing how wood structures can be so completely replaced by agate. Closer look: And finally, this is actually a form of palm. Under magnification you can see a few scattered bundles but it's almost a total shrinkwood type jasper replacement so little original wood structure remains:

Really nice!!! I love that palm and the way you sliced it looks beautiful! I have a couple of small pieces of palm slabbettes (at least that's what I think they are...) but mine look polka dotted. Now I'm wondering if what I have is actually palm and if so, maybe it was just sliced in the opposite direction?

Krystee: Yup, Palmoxylon cut the opposite direction ( across the vascular bundles) has a polka dot appearance. I cut this example more lengthwise because I thought, with the variation in color, it would make more interesting specimens or cabs but I may cut the heel the opposite direction as I have about half the hunk leftover....Mel

Of course Nate beat me to the obvious. Morning Wood, you salty dog. I bet it is a saw stopper . That said, sell me a hunk of that sweet palm! Would make great plugs. Tim
