We traded gold for some Lightening Ridge Opal a few years ago & I'm just now getting up the nerve to play with it. Now I have no idea what this one's worth. Any help will be very much appreciated. I'm going to wrap it, but need an idea what the stone's worth for a final price. This one's 24.9mm X 16.9mm. It's a doublet with an optical quartz cap. Thanks so much y'all. You guys are the best. Jo

Jo, I'd say it is worth about 3 dollars. Maybe 5 wrapped. I'll send you 10 to cover postage. What is your paypal?

Oh my gosh...I am drooling. Whatever it's worth, it's probably more than I can afford. Pity...I loves me some opal! That's a beautiful cab.

Thanks everyone. I'll consider your offer Toad. Okay, guess I'll have to talk to some jewelers when we get to WA. I've talked to a couple here in Quartzsite & they both just say "I don't do opals". The deer in the headlights look. Y'all know what I mean. It did turn out pretty, didn't it. I was so excited because it was the 1st opal I had done. I'll post when I get it wrapped. jo

I would put it in a sterling silver mount. I am not a very good wire wrapper. I guess that I would put it in what would sell fastest for the most return on investment

Did cap that awesome opal or is it all opal? Just curious, I have a few that I am wanting to cab myself and do not know were to start.

Really beautiful stone, Jo! I think you're wise to value it first and will be interested to see how you come out. The colors and flash in it are beautiful!

capped, the value of opal is usually 10% of what it would be for a solid stone. Not to take you away from the site but you can get some idea by going to the OA site and comparing to whats there.

I heard a guy saying he was going to sell some faceted opal for $100.00 a gram and it wasn't black opal but it was real nice. Might see if Tony has a thought, he goes to the American Opal Society Show in California.
