I was pleasantly surprised by Ebay this morning. Apparently I had placed a bid on an item, some time ago, that I had forgotten about. This morning I discovered that I was the winner of the auction. This is what I won for $0.99. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ; A small piece of African blue lace agat As I mentioned it is a small piece, only 3"x1.5"x1.25". Is it to small a piece to cut some cabbs from? In any event I guess I will know have to look to win a few more so as to be able to fill a small priority box. The seller combines shipping.

I've cabbed pieces of Blue Lace that size. It's a gratifying material to work, because it doesn't tend to fracture/cleavage or really present any problems at all on the cabbing wheel. Seems to me you could probably get more than one cab. Good luck. Is this Namibia material? Looks like it. If so, I think you could get AT LEAST one good cab and you could tumble polish the rest with no struggles.

Let's do some math. The end is 1.5 x 1.25, and it's 3" long. If you take off 1/8" for saw kerf, and a heel to even the end out, I bet you'd end up with at least 6-8 nice slabettes to cab. That's a beautiful piece, it should serve yo well!

I agree with Nate. you could even cut them thinner and put a backing (doublett) on them and get more.

Yes, I was lazy, just eye-balled it. Nate is right -- there's a lot more cabs in there than I said.
